Bruised banana
For this project I worked with brown pencil and charcoal. The main goal was to show the texture on your fruit/vegetable. I spent several hours working on getting the cut up pieces to look right. The texture on the inside of a banana is very distinct and I wanted to make sure I captured all of the small rings around it. Unfortunately, I do not have an artistic reasoning for choosing a banana, it was just the only fruit that 7-11 was selling before class that day. This piece was a real challenge for me since I had to make sure not to over darken anything. If you think about it, the inside of a banana is practically white. Because of this, I had to constantly remind myself to be light handed with my pencil and look from afar. The light banana against white paper didn’t stand out so I decided to darken the background which really made everything pop.
